How much does a photo booth rental cost in Ontario?
The short version, what actually moves the price, and exactly what we charge, so you can compare quotes on the same terms.
30 September 2026

Short answer: most attended photo booth rentals in southern Ontario land somewhere between about $500 and $1,200 for a two to four hour booking, before tax. Self-serve digital booths usually come in lower. At Aura, a 2 hour DSLR booth with an attendant and unlimited prints is $550, and the digital booth is $350 for 2 hours in Burlington, Oakville and Waterdown. Both are plus HST.
That range is wide because "photo booth" covers very different things. Below is what actually moves the price, so you can line two quotes up and see what each one includes.
What drives the price of a photo booth rental
Hours of booth time. Time is the biggest single factor. Most companies price by the hours the booth is open, with setup and teardown outside that. Two hours suits a cocktail hour or a smaller party. Three covers most weddings from the end of dinner into the dancing. Four is for big rooms where the line never really stops. An extra hour usually costs less than the first ones, because the booth is already set up and running.
Prints or digital only. A printer, paper and ink add real cost, and so does the time it takes to keep them running. A digital booth, where guests send the photo to their own phone, is cheaper to run, which is why it is priced lower almost everywhere. If guests leaving with a physical strip matters to you, budget for prints. If it does not, a digital booth is a sensible way to save.
The camera and the lighting. A tablet with a ring light and a DSLR with studio strobes do not produce the same photo. A dim reception hall is where the difference shows: a proper flash freezes movement and gives even skin tones, while a tablet camera gives grain and blur. Better equipment costs more to own, and quotes reflect it.
The attendant. An attended booth has a person on site the whole time who runs the line, fixes paper jams and helps guests with props. Some companies include that. Some price it separately, or offer a drop-off booth with nobody there. A drop-off booth looks cheaper on paper, but somebody at your event ends up running it.
The backdrop. A plain backdrop is usually included. Upgrades such as a flower wall or a fitted colour backdrop add a fee, and a backdrop custom-printed with your own artwork costs the most because it is designed and printed for your event. Custom-printed backdrops also need lead time. With us it is at least two months from artwork approval.
Custom strip design. This is the layout printed on every strip, with names and a date or a company logo. Some companies charge for a custom design and more again for revisions. Others include it. Ask, because a template with your name typed in is not the same as a design built around your invitation or your brand.
Travel. Most companies include travel within a set area and charge beyond it, either per kilometre or as a flat fee. Downtown venues can add parking and loading dock time too. Ask for travel as a fixed number in the quote, not an estimate you find out about later.
Typical photo booth rental prices in Ontario
These are rough ranges, not a survey. Prices move with the season, the city and what is included.
- Self-serve digital or tablet booth, 2 to 3 hours: roughly $250 to $600.
- Attended print booth, 2 hours: roughly $500 to $900.
- Attended print booth, 3 to 4 hours: roughly $650 to $1,300.
- Custom-printed backdrops, branded activations and multi-day events: quoted separately, and often over $1,500 all in.
A quote well below those ranges usually means something is missing: no attendant, a watermark on the photos, a cap on prints, or travel added afterwards. A quote well above them should come with something you can point to, like a custom backdrop or a very long booking.
What Aura charges
Our attended packages are the same full setup at three lengths. Nothing is held back to push you into a bigger package, so the only real question is how long you need the booth open.
- Essential, 2 hours: $550
- Signature, 3 hours: $650. The one most people book.
- Ultimate, 4 hours: $800
- Extra hour on any package: $150
- Digital self-operated booth, 2 hours: $350
All prices are plus HST. Every attended package includes the DSLR and studio strobe setup, an attendant, unlimited 2x6 prints (4x6 on request), unlimited digital copies, GIFs and boomerangs, sharing by text, email or QR code, the white studio backdrop, a prop table, a custom strip and start screen design, and delivery, setup and teardown. The full list is on the packages and prices page.
The only extras are things that cost us something to bring: the flower wall at $100, a custom-printed backdrop from $250, and travel outside our included area. Travel is included across Halton, Hamilton and Mississauga, so events in Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Hamilton and Mississauga pay nothing extra. Toronto and the rest of the GTA carry a flat travel fee quoted up front, and most Toronto venues come to $50 to $100.
How to compare two quotes
Put them side by side and check the same five things: how many hours of booth time, whether prints are unlimited, whether there is an attendant, whether the design is included, and what travel costs to your venue. Most of the gap between a cheap quote and a fair one is in those five lines.
Then think about your guest count. Under about 100 guests, two hours is usually enough. Between 100 and 200, three hours. Over 200, book four or half the room will miss it. If you are planning a wedding, the weddings page covers when to open the booth, and the corporate page covers branding and load-in for work events.
If the budget is tight, the honest advice is to book fewer hours of the full setup rather than a cheaper booth for longer. Two good hours at the right point in the night beat four quiet ones. And if prints are not the point, the digital booth at $350 is the better call.
